Light tent

New addition to my photography arsenal is a 80cm light tent. The purpose of a tent is to illuminate subject photographed with soft even light.

As far as I know the only ones that manufacture these is Lastolite and someone in Hong Kong distributing them worldwide with various names. Lastolite's is practically the same but for a whole lot of money.

Based on yesterday's experiments I was positively surprised on the quality of light coming out of this light tent with even just one strobe. How it works is you place one strobe on either side and once fired, the light spreads around the tent.

If you take product shoots of a watch or Matchbox cars, the 80x80x80cm tent might be a little too big but something like dishes or flower bouquet would be of suitable size. ofcourse you can also shoot small products but you might need to increase the power of your flash.

Putting it together and back into its carrying case is easy once you understand it. I really don't know how to describe the procedure but I found a video on how to collapse a similar light tent like the one I got on YouTube video.

Light tent comes with four different backgrounds you can attach: black, white, red and blue. The only gripe is that the background are made of the same material as the light tent and all folding lines are visible and hard to iron away. I recommend getting the background from other material like paper or cloth.

You can find a lot of useful information on how to use light tent here: http://www.ezcube.com/

Finally, some product photograhy of mine done in this light tent.
